Writing Your Project Statement
Writing Your Project Statement
Your project or artist statement (they’re the same thing) is a summary of the meaning behind and materials used in your work. It should also when applying to artist residences and fellowships convey to the reader why you want to participate in their specific opportunity.
Why is a project statement important? Because it allows the reader to:
intimately learn what you’re working on
learn about how you make your work
learn how their specific opportunity can support your project/practice
There’s simply no way around it, you need to have one and if writing about the three bullet points above feels overwhelming or you aren’t sure where to start, then this video is for you.
In this 25 minute video you’ll learn:
what to include in your project statement
what to avoid putting in your project statement
my signature 4 step process for writing project statements that reduces overwhelm and makes it easy (I break one down for you to demonstrate)
questions your project statement should answer
how to shorten your project statement (because you will be asked to give it to folks in no more than 500 words for example)
how to write your project statement no matter where you are in the process of making work
